Sara Hickey



Sara practices in the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group.  She maintains a general civil and commercial litigation practice, with an emphasis on employment law.  Sara also has extensive experience in municipal law, as well as planning and regulatory matters.  She has appeared before a variety of courts, boards and tribunals, including the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, the Human Rights Tribunal, the Labour Relations Board and the Ontario Municipal Board.  Sara is also a proponent of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and has participated in mediations and arbitrations.

Sara completed her undergraduate studies at Queen's University, where she was awarded the Gold Medal in Psychology.  She then completed her law degree at the University of Western Ontario. 

Sara joined the firm as a summer student in 2008 and articled with the firm from 2009-2010.  She was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2010.

Ontario Amends its Employment Standards Act in Response to COVID:19

On March 19, 2020, in response to the measures imposed on employers and businesses by the government to curb the spread of COVID-19, Bill 186, titled “An Act to amend the Employment Standards Act, 2000” (the "Bill") received Royal Assent from the provincial legislature. Emergency Leave under the Employment Standards Act (the “Act”) now includes both declared emergencies and infectious disease emergencies.
