Kristie is an Associate in the firm’s Indigenous Practice Group and is developing a diverse practice dedicated to serving Indigenous governments, communities, and their members.
In her practice, Kristie’s work is centred around supporting Indigenous clients in the assertion and exercise of inherent jurisdiction and other Indigenous and treaty rights. This includes legislative and agreement drafting, participating in government negotiations, and advising on First Nations and not-for-profit governance matters.
In working alongside clients across the country exercising inherent jurisdiction over child and family well-being, Kristie has developed specialized expertise in supporting community-led drafting of Indigenous laws, negotiating coordination and fiscal agreements, implementing Indigenous forms of decision-making and dispute resolution, and advising on systems planning and implementation. Her practice requires constantly navigating the interaction between Indigenous, provincial, territorial, and federal laws and systems.
Kristie also has experience appearing before various levels of court on judicial reviews and appellate matters, to advocate for and advance client rights.
Kristie completed her J.D. at the University of Ottawa with a specialization in Aboriginal Law and Indigenous Legal Traditions. Prior to attending law school, Kristie acquired public sector experience working in various capacities at federal government departments.
