Commercial Real Estate Law Clerk Job Description:
Our firm is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Real Estate Law Clerk to work closely with our lawyers in managing complex commercial real estate files and facilitating a wide range of transactions. This role demands a detail-oriented, proactive professional with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financing transactions, with a particular focus on corporate and lending matters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage commercial real estate transactions from beginning to completion, including acquisitions, financing, and land development matters.
- Oversee banking, loan structuring, lending, and secured financing processes.
- Prepare, review, and organize transaction documentation, including closing documents, agreements, reports, and closing books.
- Conduct and analyze title and off-title searches, prepare detailed title memoranda and opinions, and address title requisitions.
- Coordinate and execute complex lending and real estate closings.
- Liaise with clients, lawyers, and other key stakeholders.
- Assist with due diligence, document management, and file organization.
- Collaborate with lawyers and clerks to develop and execute file strategies.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Commercial Real Estate Law Clerk, specializing in complex financing transactions, particularly corporate and lending matters.
- Completion of a Law Clerk program recognized by the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO).
- Member in good standing with ILCO.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of loan structures, commercial mortgages, and secured lending.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, DocuSign, and real estate software such as Teraview.
- Experience with law firm software including Aderant, Expert Time, NetDocuments, and Kofax Power PDF is considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple transactions and deadlines.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Client-service oriented with a professional approach.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Highly conscientious with strong attention to detail.
