From your first day as a summer student, you’ll be challenged and inspired to become the best lawyer you can be.
Students working at Foglers have the opportunity to work in one of the following five general practice rotations:
Our summer program is designed to introduce you to the firm and the practice of law. Given the short time you are at the firm, during the summer program, you will spend the entire summer in one practice rotation. While in a practice group, you will work with a variety of lawyers on diverse mandates. When you return to article, you will then have the opportunity to spend time in each of the five practice areas noted above.
Our articling program is designed to expose students to each of our five main areas of practice. You will complete a course of rotational experience in Business Law (corporate/commercial, tax, wills and estates), Securities Law, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Commercial Real Estate, and Banking and Financial Services, and Administrative Law (employment, labour, public and health law).
The Fogler, Rubinoff student experience includes an educational program that focuses on a comprehensive range of subjects and issues.
The program is comprised of seminars and workshops presented by various members of the firm, as well as presenters from outside the firm. Topics are chosen in a variety of areas of specialization to reflect real-life situations and provide practical plans of action in approaching legal problems in addition to practical topics such as practice and time management.
Our Director of Professional Development is a dedicated resource to guide and help you address issues and meet your educational and professional goals and also acts as a liaison between lawyers, staff and students.
Mentorship is a cornerstone of our student programs. Our mentors are generally Senior Associates or Junior Partners who are committed to the student’s professional development. Mentors and students meet on a regular basis to discuss any number of topics, and to assist with the integration of the student into the firm.
Our firm’s culture is very important to us and we work hard to nurture and develop it. The personal, approachable nature of our firm is enhanced by regular socials and an open door policy to create a friendly and caring environment.
Fogler, Rubinoff LLP offers students a salary competitive with that of other downtown Toronto law firms. Summer students receive the same salary as our articling students.
As an articling student, you will receive two weeks of paid vacation during the course of your articling term. Additional benefits include life insurance, an extended health care and dental plan, Canadian Bar Association membership and fitness allowance. Fogler, Rubinoff also pays Law Society and bar admission fees for articling students.
At Fogler, Rubinoff, we know that the members of our firm are the key to our continued success. When we consider hiring students back, our decision is based on their character, quality of work and performance; in short, on their ability to strengthen our firm as we continue to deliver the highest quality of legal services and expertise to each and every client.
Our firm has been exceptionally successful and we look to exceed these results in the future. We practice law in an informal, relaxed atmosphere that we believe has contributed to our growth and success.
